One thing about the Savage, the factory reccomends the four head bolts torqued to 24 lbs after the first 600 miles. In fact there is a list of chassis and frame bolts as well as head cover bolts that should also be torqued to specs in periodic maintenance. I torqued my head bolts and they really were loose, not sloppy loose, but they required about 5lbs to bring them up to spec.If your bike has never been tightened, that could be the reason for leakage.
